Week eight
here we are preparing for the expedition, issuing gear and stuff.
this one is art
then we load stuff onto the cart. it had a lot of stuff
we arrived
this is a photo of nature, for my dad. He likes photos of nature
Here we made the group covenant of expectations.
then we started walking
God Brazil is so bleak in the winter. so totally void of beauty
GOATS
BABY GOATS
we did some more walking
avoided some sheep stampedes
then arrived at the first camp
we could see the city in the distance. CAN YOU SEE IT
CAN YOU SEE IT NOW
the sun started to set. it was whatever
so we had a lesson on how to set up a tent
then we set up camp
all organized and stuff. I love an organized camp
The goats wanted to visit, cause our camp was so organized.
the next day we did some walking and hopped some fences.
Those are clouds in a cloud lake, whatever
we arrived at a small lake
hopped another fence, and set up camp.
ART
it started to rain.
so we took a bath
ART this was the morning of the next day
ART. I am so good at art
the sun was out so we decided to dry some of our stuff
god I am so good at packing a pack
then we had a lesson on comfort zones and personal growth
then we started walking again
god that lake was so ugly in the sun light I was glad to leave
more photos of nature
CLOUD LAKES do you see it.
do you see it
the initial climb was hard for some
but then we walked through some cool nature
Nature
nature
action shot
we arrived at camp on the third day
and promptly did battle with a fog monster
at times it felt like it was winning
then it started to rain
then hail
then the heavens opened and we did battle with the very firmament of the sky
some parts of the camp turned into ponds of ice
they thought it was snow but I knew better
we assessed the damage of the battle
and the fog monster returned in full force
I tried to make a sacrificial idol to appease it
but it didn't work
ART
so we played some games to keep warm. there was much frolicking to be had
the next day it started to clear up
so we tried to dry some things
we thought the sun god had driven the fog monster away
so I dried my feet
and help cook and eat some food
but the fog monster returned with a vengeance
nature photo for my dad
we did a navigation lesson
I don't think they appreciated the irony but I did.
the next day the fog monster was gone we had won
so we dried some things
I dried my feet
and we did some walking
ART. something profound about the decay of the artificial and its return to the soil of its creation
we could see the city from here
can you see it? it is under those clouds
Art shot
God I am good at art
we found some goat remains and tried to put them back in their anatomically correct positions.
the night sky was full of stars. can you see them. (anyone who says yes is a liar cause this is the inside of my pocket.)
then we had solo
and did some walking
HOLY WHAT. THIS IS AMAZING. THE BEST VIEW IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I GET TO DO THIS IN REAL LIFE. I AM WAITING FOR THE MOMENT WHEN IT STOPS BEING AMAZING.
we got a little dirty on the way up
but it was worth it to see the curve of the earth from the top of a mountain
NATURE
then we arrived at our final camp
we dried some things
I dried some things
I took my first under water photo with my camera
we played in the river
let some butterflies lick the sweat from our arms
then did some walking
to our service project
we helped a small community set up for a local festival
we came back to a dog in our camp
we preped set up for the water fall repel
nature
I made friends with the dog
we bonded
and watched the sun set the mountains ablaze with light and shadow
I bonded with the dog some more
we bonded hard
then the next day we dried some things
this one is art
I said good bye to my spirit dog
and we took down camp
Then I arrived at the house of the director of the program. I slept at his house cause the next day I was accompanying him on a pilot program for on a new urban expedition program. I had just enough time to shower, sleep, and contact my parents to cancel the coming Skype session. I finished this expedition on Sunday and Monday I started my first ever urban expedition.
